While the engine is being cranked, the battery positive voltage is applied to starter terminal of the ECM.

Causes
Possible causes of OBD code P0617 Saab
– Short in Park and Neutral Position (PNP) switch assembly circuit – Park and Neutral Position (PNP) switch assembly – Ignition switch – ECM The Error code is generally activated on detection of the following conditions: If the vehicle is being driven and the ECM detects the starter control signal (STA), the ECM concludes that the starter control circuit is malfunctioning. The ECM will turn on the MIL and will set a DTC.
